Your Voice
A reminder at the start of the New Year
This line in Mary Oliver’s Journey resonated with me and I’m sharing my own writing that it sparked off.
“there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world…”
There’s a moment in life when you start hearing a new voice, one that’s different from the noise of others. At first, it’s unfamiliar—soft, tentative, almost hidden behind the noise of past expectations. But as time passes, you begin to recognize it. It’s yours. It’s the voice that has always been there, waiting for the right moment to emerge, strong and clear. It speaks truths you’ve never dared say aloud, offering comfort, strength, and freedom. It’s not just your voice—it’s the real you, finally speaking.
This is written on Day 5 of
‘s Winter Writing Sanctuary.
