The Messenger

This is written in response to Julia Skinner ‘s 100 Word Prompt #1. You can find it on her publication The Gentle Pen.
There he stood in her front yard, unmoving, watching her every move. The hood of his cloak hid his face, but she felt his gaze—steady, searching, almost knowing. Who was he, this silent stranger who appeared out of nowhere? Was he real, or just a creation of her weary mind? A messenger, perhaps—but sent by whom? Her breath caught as she waited, caught between fear and curiosity, unsure whether to run or listen for what he had come to say. Then, at last, he spoke—his voice low but clear—telling her it was time to change, to break free.
